Another Week Gone By

Last week was the kids first week of swim lessons. They have lessons Mon-Fri for two weeks. Both the kids love going everyday. Zach is really starting to like bobbing up and down in the water and Katie is doing pretty well floating. Unfortunately the lessons are in the evening and with the weather on hot/humid Texas summer afternoons we all know that there is almost always a chance of rain between the hours of 4-8. Needless to say they had to cut one class short and cancel another last week because of Lightening and Thunder and unfortunately no rain to go with it.

On Saturday I got to go out to Celebrate Freedom. Ok I know - who would want to go spend 12 hours out in the hot Texas sun just listening to music???? That would be me. I had an awesome time and really liked the fireworks at the end. Fortunately no sunburn.

Zach did give me a good laugh yesterday. He was playing HangMan. One of the only ways we can sometimes get him to write. He wrote all his letters on the board. When asked how many letter the word had he said seven and put his seven dashes on the board. The first letter guessed was not in the word so he marked it on the board. Next, an "E" was called. He then said "There are no Es in my name" wtih a straight face. So do you think he realized he gave the word away????

Here are a few quotes from our house lately:

1. "That's Nasty". Katie
2. "That's Silly". Katie
3. "That's the Beeeeeeeeeest". Katie
4. "She's not a nice Princess". Zachary
5. "Oh I get to have a Butterfly Teaparty". Katie
6. "If you eat a seed it will grow into a flower. If you eat a grape you will turn back to a man with a pretty princess dress, a necklace and a crown". Katie

VBS Day 5

1. Wake up and play peek a boo with Katie in bed.
2. Lather aloe onto my back. I looked like a lobster with a stripe.
3. Munch on some Captain Crunch with Crunch Berries.
4. Drop the kids off at their stations. Katie willingly went.
5. Get the bandanas out and play "End of the Tail". Had some classes end up just running in a circle after each other and others whining that their friends were running or holding onto their shoulders too tight. At the end of some classes we ended up just doing running and potato sack relays.
6. Eat fruit and cheese with Zach during snack time. Ok I ate that and he ate his candy.
7. Watched the kids sing their VBS songs in the church. Both the kids were animated and really got into singing the songs. Zach still loved doing the sign for strength.
8. Along with Erin, Mimi and the 8 grandkids, went to Burger King for Lunch. Next time I'll remember that they don't have to have the happy meal.
9. Took the kids to see Toy Story 3. Zach really wanted to see Buzz Lightyear. All the kids really enjoyed it. I was glad there was only one round of potty breaks.
10. I think Katie will really miss seeing her cousins daily. She kept on asking why Erin (her new Mom) was leaving her. Maybe it was the rides in the Mini-Van she really liked.
11. Came home and played baseball outside with Zach. Then came in and watched "Cars". Katie passed out.
12. Getting the pizza ready for dinner.

VBS Day 4

1. Woke up to the cat scratching on my bed.
2. Enjoyed eggs/toast/fruit for breakfast and leisurely got ready for the day.
3. Remembered to take Zachary his medicine to take before VBS. I got a big hug and kiss from him and Katy.
4. Played "Life-Changing Tag" with the kids today. It was Freeze Tag with water bottles. I defenitely got me work out chasing all the kids. I really had fun with the Kindergartners as they were dramatic when they were frozen and jus really enjoyed the game.
5. Tried to calm Zach down during the group picture. It was very loud and chaotic which he does not do well with. There was a lot of holding and I think he took the picture with his ears covered.
6. Came back to the house and made another round of grill cheese sandwiches with fruit and chips. I don't think the kids were really hungry.
7. Got everyone all lathered up and went with all the kids plus Erin and Zman to the pool. The older kids liked having the slide.
8. Happy that they let the kids wear floaties. Both Zachary and Katie liked the little slides. Zachary enjoyed going under the Rainbow fountain and around the lazy river.
9. Found out that Katy now calls Erin her new Mom. She at least told me that she likes me best.
10. Even after applying sunscreen twice, my shoulders and chest are still red.
11. Came home and put Katy down in her bed and fed Zach chicken nuggets. I got some ham and cherries.
12. Really hoping that both the kids will go to bed quickly tonight.

VBS Day 3

1. Wake up.
2. Eat a bowl of rasin bran and get the kids dressed. They still requested to wear their t-shirts so I let them.
3. Just made it to church right before the singing began.
4. Play "Sprinkle, Sprinkle, Splash". The VBS version of Duck Duck Goose. I think the kids had a good time splashing their friends with cups of water.
5. Got a chance to talk with Zachary during snack time again. I think his friends like seeing me so they can quiz me on what we will be doing during game time. The Kindergarten class is my last class.
6. After everything was over we picked up child #6 and went to my house.
7. Cooked corn dogs for lunch with fruit and chips. They actually scarfed this one down.
8. Picked up the mini-van and took the kids to Pump it Up. Half way there I realized they all needed socks but three were with-out. This lead to a trip to Wal-Mart to find three totally different sizes of socks. Now that was stressful.
9. Got to Pump it Up and let the kids go wild. Unfortunately my son thinks I need to play with him the whole time. I ended up with a burn on my elbow the first slide down.
10. After over an hour of jumping and running around we were on out adventure back through the city right around rush hour traffic time.
11. All the kids requested water and snack when we go home. Another round of corn dogs was requested.
12. Had my sister watch my kids for the night. What a heaven sent. My son cried earlier in the dat that he did not want to go.
13. Picked up Wing Stop (original wings and yummy fries) to eat before the Grand Prairie Air Hogs game. Watched the Air Hogs stomp the Lincoln Salt Dogs.
14. Enjoyed sleeping in a kidless bed.

VBS Day 2

Here is a recount of Day 2

1. Quickly get the kids dressed. They insisted on wearing their VBS shirts.
2. Dropped the kids off at their classes. Katie was only a little hesitant on me leaving.
3. Went to the gym for day 2 of games - we played "Ship Bombardment" where the kids were hiding behind a cardboard box and throwing paper balls at each other. I think they enjoyed it. I'm glad that I was inside out of the heat. No getting burnt.
4. Got to talk to Zach at snack time. He ate the "DOTS" and gold fish while I ate his nachos. Yummy fruit punch.
5. Saw Katie when she was in the gym for her game time. She came running for me.
6. Added a child to the afternoon festivities. Up to five.
7. Came home for lunch. Was a grilled cheese cooking Mom. Served the kids family style and was amazed all the sandwiches were gone by the end. Katie and Megan loved dipping the fritos in the ranch.
8. Packed the kids up for afternoon activites at Creative Hands. Zach walked in and went directly to the kids play area. Don't think he was interested.
9. Had only one crying fit. Megan was opening up the yellow paint and spilled it on her art work. Needless to say I was now going to be finishing her Mary and Jesus while I got her a New One.
10. Katie ended up painting half of her Ariel pink and blue. Wouldn't quite let Mom finish painting Ariel so she could have red hair.
11. At the end of the Day we came home with a "H", "E", half painted Ariel, 2 Mary and Jesus plus a red race car that I did for Zach.
12. Came home and made snacks for all - fruit snacks, Cherry Limeade, Cherry Coke Zero Floats plus popsicles. After that they also had some cereal and popsicles.
13. After two of the kids left took the remaining three to the park. It was a little toasty at 5 in the evening.
14. Made sure the kids had socks on and the family went to Alley Cats. Had pizza there for dinner, plus played an hour of bowling.
15. Zachary some how got a true gutter ball with the bumpers up, Katie played soccer with the ball, I bowled the only strike and Vince won the round.
16. After bowling we played games. Zachary played a round of basketball, Mom had some fun on Dance Revolution, Katie through a few wild balls during Skee Ball and Dad lost his Pin Ball Match to Mom.

VBS Day 1

1. Get kids dressed in VBS shirts.
2. Drop kids off in classes. Katie cried that she wanted to go to her nursery class and not play with the big kids.
3. Went and found the games group outside.
4. Instructed 4 groups of kids on playing compass tag.
5. Watched the kids as they learned the hand motions to three new songs.
6. Drove the 4 kids home and had lunch made in under 15 minutes.
7. Went to the pool and was happy they let the kids where floatie rings. It probably helped that the water only got 1.5 ft deep.
8. Came home and discovered my forehead and various splotches of my chest and shoulders were burnt. Remind me not to use the sunscreen spray, esp on a windy day.
9. Took two hungry kids to Double Daves for dinner. Let them play the Candy Crane game.
10. Came home and played baseball with the kids.
11. Watched "Cars" - Ca Chow.
12. Ready for night night.

Happy Baptism Day

Yesterday my youngest nephew was baptized up at church. My parents served as his God parents. At 10 months old we were happy that he not only fit into the dress but he was also a very well behaved little boy. No crying what so ever. After the baptism we went back to my parents for dinner. This was one of the few times that we got all the grand kids together for one picture.

Birthday Weekend

Well - this weekend I celebrated my birthday with the family. The kids definitely got excited. If you asked them what I needed for my birthday they would tell you a pony (Katie) and movie (Zachary). Katie also thought I needed a pony cake while Zach thought a rainbow cake would do. And so I ended up with a My Little Pony Rainbow Dash pony and the movie the Princess Frog. Literally as I was opening the gifts the kids had their hands stretched out for me to let them play with them. I didn't end up with my pony cake but had a Very Berry "JELLY" Pie .

On Saturday the family ventured out to the Ft Worth Museum of Science and History. The kids definitely had a good time in the Children's Museum part playing in the Grocery Store and building train tracks while I enjoyed seeing the Van Gogh exhibit.

On our way out to the car we passed a fountain that the kids could run through and they instantly headed for it. Boy did they get soaked. I had a large kids shirt to change Katie into after it was all said and done and she looked at it and let me know that she did not wear boys shirts. She reluctantly agreed to it once she realized it was the only way to get dry.

Over the last few weeks the kids have started listening to the Mama Mia soundtrack with me in the car. At first if Zach found the CD in the player he would take it out and replace it with his kids songs. Now he just makes sure track 4 - Dancing Queen- is playing. It is so cute to see the kids in the back seat pointing their fingers singing "You can dance, you can jive" and "Feel the beat from the Tambourine". Once that song is over Katie instantly requests "Honey, Honey". I'm sure after we get our CD from VBS this summer then Mama Mia will get replaced.

This past week I finally talked with Zach's prinipal discussing if we were going to promote him to 1st Grade. He actually passed Kindergarten but I was the one with reservations on if he should go. In the end we decided to advance him to first grade as long as he can get help next year with his fine motor skills.

For some reason Zach has never done a good job at grasping objects which in turn makes his writing not so good. He also has no desire to do much for extended periods of time that help with his find motor skills which makes it all the difficult. At home every evening I'm trying to institute time to work on his writing plus other fine motor activities. The last two nights we have worked on his letter and numbers. We get a white board out that you can put in your lap and trace his number and letters. Once he does the minimum writing he is ready to get back to his other activities. The funny thing is that Katie on the other hand wants to do the same things Zach does but will do the basics once and ask to do it again and again.

End of the School Year

The last two weeks have been pretty busy. I was able to take off work to go to his field day. Although it was really hot, we were able to stay a little cool. Like many other schools they don't do the traditional races like they used to. His school grouped the kids into groups of three and let them do all twenty little races. A sixth grader was in-charge of each group and they also ran the events. After each race depending on how they finished, the kids got their cards punched noting if they got 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Zachary's favorite event was the basketball dribble. Zachary won that one by a long shot.

Yesterday we finished up our first T-ball season. Wow has Zachary improved. The biggest improvements came in his base running. At the begining of the season he would run the bases in a rainbow shape as to avoid the baseman. Last night he was running them straight and not afraid of the baseman. He knew that if he didn't run fast enough he would be out. If you asked him what his greatest accomplishment of the season was he would tell you getting three base runners out in one inning.

Zachary did get excited last week when he showed us his first loose tooth. He has brought home a library book called "Andrew's Loose Tooth" twice during the school year. He let me know that you got to put your name on the board at school when you lost your tooth. Well this week we were able to pull out his first tooth with little effort. Ok Mommy just cringes and gets nauseous just thinking of inflicting pain on my child trying to get the tooth out. Luckily I had help. It was his bottom right tooth.

Thursday was his last day of Kindergarten. I'm just amazed how much he has grown. From his first day of school with his Spiderman backback where we walked him into his classroom to his last day where I dropped him off at the daycare and he rode the bus.
